Polymarket volume grew seven-fold in seven months. Millions of new traders now have tax obligations they've never had before.

2026

The first year of Form 1099-DA broker reporting for digital assets — and the first year prediction-market basis is squarely in scope.

You

Polymarket doesn't send a complete 1099 for all activity. The IRS expects cost basis tracked position by position — by the trader.

The tax software stack wasn't built for prediction markets

Every position is a taxable event

Each buy, sell, merge, and redemption on Polymarket is a separate disposition. A single sports weekend can create hundreds of lots — each with its own basis and holding period.

The 1099-DA year started

2026 is the first year brokers report digital-asset dispositions on Form 1099-DA. Prediction-market traders are still expected to track cost basis position by position — and your own records may not match what a broker files.

Tax software wasn't built for this

Generic crypto tax tools are built for spot trades. Funding, merges, splits, conversions, and $1.00 resolutions don't map cleanly — and the traditional fix is uploading your entire history to someone's server.

Private by architecture, not by policy

Conventional tax software solves this with a privacy policy: upload your full history to their servers and trust them to delete it. We solved it with engineering — there is no upload step to trust, because the entire computation runs inside your own tab.

How it works

  1. 1

    Paste your Polymarket address

The proxy wallet shown on your Polymarket profile. Public data flows straight into your browser tab from Polymarket's own API.

  2. 2

    Review the full report, free

Realized and unrealized P&L, per market, per tax year, with the country pack of your residence — US, UK, Germany, or a generic international format.

  3. 3

Pay $19 in USDC, download the filing set

Form 8949/SA108-style CSV, full report with totals and methodology, unrealized positions, and rewards income. No account, no subscription.

Built differently, on purpose

Computed in your browser

Your positions, fills, and report never touch a server. There is no upload step, because there is no server in the loop.

Country report packs

US (Form 8949), UK (Section 104 average-cost pooling, SA108), Germany (one-year rule shown separately), and a generic international export.

Built for prediction markets

$1.00 resolutions, worthless positions, merges, splits, and rewards are handled natively — not squeezed into a spot-trade model.

Honest about gaps

If history is incomplete, the report says so and excludes it from totals — it never silently guesses your taxes.

Free until the export

The entire report is visible before you pay a cent. You check the numbers first; the filing set is $19 in USDC.

FAQ

Are Polymarket winnings taxable?

In the US, yes. Selling or resolving prediction-market positions generally triggers capital gains or losses, and rewards are typically ordinary income. Polymarket does not send US users a complete Form 1099 for all activity, so the cost basis must be tracked by the trader.

What is a 1099-DA?

Form 1099-DA is the new broker report for digital-asset dispositions that starts with 2026 transactions. It does not change the underlying rule — every disposition is a taxable event — but it makes accurate, self-tracked cost basis more important, because brokers and your records may not agree.

How is cost basis computed on Polymarket?

Every outcome token is its own asset. Buying 100 shares at $0.40 sets a $40 basis; selling at $0.60 realizes $20 of gain; a winning market redeems at $1.00 per share; a losing market is worth zero and realizes a loss equal to your basis. Liquidity rewards are typically ordinary income.

Why compute it in the browser?

Because your betting history is sensitive. Conventional tax software asks you to upload your full trade history to their servers. Bitfork Tax fetches the public data into your own tab and computes everything there — our servers never see your positions, fills, or report.

Which countries are supported?

Report packs are available for the United States (Form 8949 style, FIFO), the United Kingdom (Self Assessment style, HMRC Section 104 average-cost pooling), Germany (Anlage SO style, with the one-year holding rule shown separately), and a generic international format. More jurisdictions are being added.

What does it cost?

The full preview is free. A filing-ready export — Form 8949/SA108-style CSV, full report with totals, unrealized positions, and rewards income — is $19 in USDC per address per tax year, or $29 for up to three wallets combined.
